Here at Avengers S.T.A.T.I.O.N. (Scientific Training and Tactical Intelligence Operative Network) I got the opportunity to experience the science behind my favourite superheroes and hopefully find out whether I can become Iron Man one day!
The exhibition has travelled across the globe from New York to Seoul, and now it’s making its debut in Southeast Asia. What makes Avengers S.T.A.T.I.O.N. really cool is the fact that the exhibition was designed around S.T.E.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) while working closely with NASA, National Academy of Sciences, Neuroverse, JPL and Gamedesk to simulate real experiements within the world of The Avengers.
I would like to think of myself as a walking Wikipedia when it comes to the superheroes of the Marvel Universe. Ask me about their history, how they got their powers and I could probably bore you with the nitty gritty details. But I must admit at the Avengers S.T.A.T.I.O.N. there were so much more information to learn and I had to concede that I wasn’t a know-it-all that I thought I was.
At Captain America’s section you can learn about cryopreservation and physiological reprogramming, probably the closest thing we can get to replicate the Super Soldier Serum. By now, we all know that Dr Bruce Banner transforms into the Hulk whenever he gets angry. But the exhibition takes it a step further by explaining the neuroscience behind the transformation.
The heroes are featured prominently in each of the sections but that doesn’t mean the super villains have taken a back seat in this exhibition, see if you can spot the Chitauri, Loki and Ultron. Some displays are actually not from the Avengers franchise but from other movies that are interwoven into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Characters such as the Dark Elf from Thor and Ant-Man’s costume can be found here also.
My favourite? It has to be the Iron Man section where some of his most iconic armours are displayed here including the ever popular Hulkbuster armour. And ramping up the cool factor is the Hulkbuster Experience where I was fitted into the power suit right in front of my very eyes and blasted my enemies into smithereens, all through the power of augmented reality of course.
Prior to going I would recommend downloading the ‘AVENGERS S.T.A.T.I.O.N.’ application from the App Store (Apple) or Play Store (Android) on your mobile device before entering the exhibition. The application provides exclusive content and allows you to play augmented reality games. There’s also an option of renting a device for S$5. A photo ID or passport will be required as deposit.
