Bacalar Site of Fuerte de San Felipe citadel, built in 1700 to defend the city against rampaging pirates. The fort is now an interesting history museum. The laguna de Bacalar is famous for the beauty of its waters. Locals refer to it as the "Lagoon of Seven Colors."
